The 6th graders from Marion County Middle High School traveled to Kennesaw State University’s Museum of History and Holocaust Education on Monday, March 20. There, the students were able to participate in four different learning activities.
We began with the Parallel Paths Exhibit tour. Here, the students were given a person to research and learn about their role in the Holocaust. After studying their person, the students were asked to place that person in one of four categories: victim, perpetrator, bystander, or rescuer. Then, we entered the Georgia Journeys Exhibit Exploration. Students learned of many of the contributions of Georgia during World War II. They then listened to and analyzed the stories of individuals who lived in Georgia during the war. Next, was an interactive lesson highlighting the Hitler youth. Finally, students viewed a short film about Anne Frank’s life.
These lessons provided a powerful look into the past and they made the pages of the history book come to life for our students through this experience.
