Attention Parents and Guardians: Tomorrow's Fall Festival on October 9 is for students only during their exploratory period. All Games are Free! Concessions will be open! All items will be $1. Please send money if you would like your student to have concessions.
Based on the most current weather advisory predicting strong winds and heavy rains with possible tornadoes and power outages, Marion County Schools will be closed to students and staff Thursday and Friday, September 26th and 27th . All athletic, extracurricular, and after-school activities are canceled as well.

Due to the temporary water outage, L. K. Moss Elementary School has implemented its Temporary Water Interruption Plan (MCMHS was never without water.). Faculty and staff are taking all precautions to continue to keep our students and employees safe and healthy (general precautions listed below). Interrupted Water Advisory Precautions
Commercially bottled water is being used to wash hands followed with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Only commercially bottled water is being used for drinking water. Feel free to send bottled water for your child; however, the school will provide water to all students and employees.
When necessary, commercially manufactured ice is also being used.
All school food is being prepared with commercially bottled water and single service utensils and tableware. The menu is being limited to ready to eat items or cook to serve items with limited preparation.
Due to a water outage in the county, Marion County Schools will dismiss early today. MCMHS will dismiss at 11 AM. LKMES will dismiss at 11:10 AM. Parents may begin picking up car riders at that time as well
We regret to inform you of the death of one of our 10th grade students this morning. A student death is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress for some students. During this time, as the school community processes the tragic news and copes with grief, we will offer counseling and bereavement support services to all of our students and staff. A team of counselors, school psychologists, and trained staff at Marion County Middle High School will provide support to any student or staff member in need throughout the upcoming days. Your students may be affected by this tragedy, even if he or she did not know the student. I encourage you to talk to your students about what has happened. Discussing thoughts and feelings about the situation is important in helping your students work through his or her grief.
If you feel your student needs to speak with a guidance counselor, teacher, or other adult, please contact the Guidance Department or School Administration. This is a difficult time for all of us, but I know that our students, staff and community will come together during this tragedy.

With the current climate surrounding school safety, we felt the need to remind the public that no firearm is allowed on a school campus. While we do understand that Georgia has open carry laws, those laws do not permit the possession of a firearm on a school campus. On Thursday, an adult attempting to check their student out of school came on campus with their firearm still secured in the holster. The adult got no farther than the front office. This person has been charged with possession of a firearm on a school campus and has been barred from coming on any Marion County School campus.
There is no known or suspected threat to our schools. We share this in an effort to be completely transparent and as a reminder that NO FIREARMS ARE ALLOWED ON SCHOOL CAMPUS. Thank you for continuing to work together as a community to make sure our students and staff are safe and protected.

We would like to thank our faculty and staff for doing as they always do and protecting our students while giving them all the love and support they can. Thank you to our law enforcement agencies who had an increased presence on campus today and continue to investigate all concerns. Thank you to our parents for being understanding and supportive, and last but certainly not least, thank you to our AWESOME student body who followed all safety protocols and directions today and remained resilient. We are aware of a threat to school safety being shared on social media and are actively working with law enforcement to determine its source and credibility. The list is actually a document from Georgia Department of Education identifying schools that qualify for Title I, Part A funds. That identification is based on our socioeconomics and nothing more. The list appears to have been photoshopped to add the heading. Local and state law enforcement are continuing to investigate the source of the image. The safety of our students and staff remains the district's highest priority. Together, we will continue to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students and staff.
