The March 18, 2025 Boil Water Advisory has been lifted. When a boil water advisory is lifted, staff completes our post-advisory procedures. All procedures were completed Wednesday afternoon and we will operate as normal Thursday morning. Due to the temporary water outage, L. K. Moss Elementary School has implemented its Temporary Water Interruption Plan (MCMHS was never without water.) Faculty and staff are taking all precautions to continue to keep our students and employees safe and healthy (general precautions listed below). Water has been restored, and both schools will resume their regular schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, 2025. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Temporary Water Interruption Plan at L. K. Moss Elementary School, please contact the principal, Mr. Jason Reese at (229) 649-5567. Interrupted Water Advisory Precautions Commercially bottled water is being used to wash hands followed with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Only commercially bottled water is being used for drinking water. Feel free to send bottled water for your child; however, the school will provide water to all students and employees. When necessary, commercially manufactured ice is also being used. All school food is being prepared with commercially bottled water and single service utensils and tableware. The menu is being limited to ready to eat items or cook to serve items with limited preparation. 

Due to a water outage in the county, Marion County Schools will dismiss early today. MCMHS will dismiss at 11:20 AM. LKMES will dismiss at 11:30 AM. Parents may begin picking up car riders at that time as well.

🚨 No School Thursday (3/13) and Friday (3/14)

Valentine's Day is almost here! The Marion County School System would like to make sure you are able to send gifts to students should you choose to do so. We will observe Valentine's Day for the school system on Friday, February 14th (as long as schools remain open at that time). We ask that all items be delivered to the Media Center at L.K. Moss and to the gym at MCMHS between the hours of 8 AM and 12 Noon on Friday, February 14, 2025. Please be sure to label the item with the student's name and the teacher's name (PreK--8th grade: homeroom teacher / Grades 9-12: 4th block teacher). As usual, if your child or teen is a bus rider, balloons must be the small kind with a "stick". No large balloons or stuffed animals will be permitted on buses. Also, please keep in mind that Valentine’s Day is on a Friday and school is also out for President’s Day the following Monday. If you send something to a student who is absent on Friday, it may be Tuesday before they receive it. The school is not responsible for the condition of the items over that 3-day weekend.

Middle School Track and Field Try-Outs have been rescheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, February 3, 5 & 6. Student must have an UpToDate physical on file with the nurse prior to trying out.   

Due to hazardous road conditions, Marion County Schools will be closed to students on Friday, January 24, 2025. Faculty and staff should report at 11:00 AM. We appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and faculty. Thank you.

After consultation with Emergency Management regarding travel in the current weather and road conditions, Marion County Schools will remain closed to students and faculty Thursday, January 23, 2025. We will continue to monitor weather and road updates closely. Please check the school website and social media for the most current information. Stay safe and warm!

Based on the most current weather advisory predicting up to three inches of snow with possible refreezing and icy roads, Marion County Schools will be closed to students and staff Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21-22, 2025. All athletic, extracurricular, and after-school activities are canceled as well. Please monitor the weather, district website, and social media for updates. Please stay warm and safe.

Due to anticipated winter weather and hazardous road conditions, all Marion County Schools will be closed to students and faculty on Friday, January 10, 2025. There is a significant risk of icy roads forming throughout the day, making it unsafe to transport students. The school system will continue to monitor road conditions and provide additional updates if necessary. We appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and faculty. Thank you.

Attendance will be taken tomorrow as normal. The only exception is for those students in grades 9-12 who qualify for exemption from final exams. All others will be marked with either an excused or unexcused absence.

Parents, Guardians, and Students of Marion County Schools, particularly L.K. Moss Elementary School: It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Sherry Hewitt Snipes, a beloved teacher at L. K. Moss Elementary School. Mrs. Snipes was dedicated to her students and the profession and will be deeply missed by the entire school family. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. We also hold her current and former students in our hearts. We contacted the parents of those students via telephone today. Counselors will be available at L. K. Moss Elementary in the media center on Tuesday.

✨ Big news! We’re thrilled to announce our next Bright Ideas grant recipient: Kelly Morgan! 🎉 Kelly is an amazing teacher at L.K. Moss Elementary School, where she’s inspiring students across multiple grade levels. Her Bright Idea? Bringing robots into the classroom! 🤖✨ With these cool tech tools, Kelly will ignite a passion for STEM, teaching her students valuable skills in engineering, problem-solving, and critical thinking—all - while encouraging teamwork and creativity. 💡🌟 We can’t wait to see how Kelly’s students rise to the challenge and explore the world of robotics! Congrats, Kelly! 👏👏

There has been some speculation today about the presence of a gun on our campus. During the installation of new metal detectors in that facility, law enforcement asked a civilian to anonymously test the detector. The detector performed well and detected the weapon. At no time were children placed in danger. We are eager to improve security at every opportunity and are enthusiastic about the installation of these devices in our schools.

We realize Friday's soft lockdown may have been distressing, but given recent tragic incidents in Georgia and the nation, school systems and law enforcement must take these types of threats or communications extremely seriously. The Sheriff's Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to pursue prosecuting the sender of the threat. Our faculty and staff continue to educate our students while ensuring the safety of all members of our school system. In response to a threat sent via email, schools are placed on a soft lockdown for the remainder of the day. Law enforcement and school administration continue to investigate. We continue to keep the safety of our students and employees as our number one priority.

Fall Break is Thursday, October 10th, through Monday, October 14th. Students will return on Tuesday, October 15th.
