The Healthcare Science students have been busy learning to do CPR and First Aid. The lessons from day to day engage the students to problem solve and think about emergency situations. They should all be CPR and First Aid certified within a week. This is the third and final course in the healthcare sequence. They will soon take a test to become pathway certified.
Scenarios that they have covered include dealing with cardiac arrest, stroke, anaphylaxis, poisoning, and accidents. They have learned the signs and symptoms of shock and how to control bleeding. Their teacher is David Chapman, RN. Most of these students have decided to go into some area of healthcare. Nursing is the most frequently chosen profession among this group. However, a couple of them want to be doctors or physician assistants.
